The Liberty Centre Assemblies of God Church as we see it today, has a vivid history
In 1969, the late Mrs Rosina Kweifio, who was a committed member of the Evangel Assemblies of God church, Adabraka, together
with her family moved to settle at Abeka. Shortly after that, she started a Morning Devotion at her residence which opened
to the public. With time, attendance at the dawn sessions grew to an extent that the sitting room could no longer accommodate
them. They therefore moved to the cool shade of a mango tree in her compound. After some time, the dawn meetings assumed
a Church status. She therefore appealed to the head quarters of the Assemblies of God Church to send in a pastor to take pastoral
oversight over the flock.
In 1973, Rev. Samuel Adjako of blessed memory was posted to the Church as the first pastor. The first chapel, which was
wooden structures, was raised in Mrs Kweifio’s compound in the same year.
Rev. Adjako with very hard working Board Members like Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nyame (who is still a member of the Board), the
late Mr. Tetteh and other, worked tireless to acquire a plot of land for the church and the foundation work commenced. However,
Rev. Adjako could not see the full vision of the Church materialised due to ill health. In the year 1985, he passed away.
On February 24, 1986, Rev. Sam Ato Bentil was posted to the Church. Under his leadership, the new Church Building was
raised and roofed. The Church therefore moved from the wooden structure to a new building (now the Mission house) in 1989.
After the four years (1993), it was realized that the Church membership was growing a t a very fast rate such that the
auditorium could no longer contain them. This, coupled with the need for the diversity in the language used by the members
necessitated the beginning of running two church services on Sunday mornings.
In March, 1997, the church bought the new plot of land off the Lapaz motorway Extension and began building a new Church
auditorium. On 31st December, 1999, the first watch night service was held in the new building. The project has continued
to its present state.
